| Well holy crap it's been one year |
[Jun. 27th, 2006|10:07 pm] |
I almost forgot that I could update this thing! But alas, it seems time to retire the old livejournal, since I haven't found a real reason to blog (code name: laziness) for over a year....until now....since I'll be going to Paris to study abroad in less than 48 hours!!! And so, that brings me here.
Since livejournal is primarily filled with accounts of my dumb 15-17 year old self, I've decided to turn over a new leaf and blog all my Parisian adventures over the six weeks at a new and improved web site (oooooh la la), which iiiiiiisss:
rachanaaparis.blogspot.com
Don't worry, I still (mostly) read all your guys' stuff and I'll try to comment every now and then. But now you know where to find me :)
Also if anyone wants a postcard, make sure to leave a comment with your address on the new thingamajig, since I'll rarely be checking this one. A bientot! |

| well hello there livejournal |
[Jun. 7th, 2005|07:24 pm] |
It's about damn time that I wrote in this thing again, since I've had respite for about 3 months now. Good thing the song tag thing came along ;) And so, since I was tagged by Kristin and Dreyfuss, here are 5 songs that I am currently digging:
1) "Breathe In"- Frou Frou 2) "Homecoming King"- Guster 3) "Philosophy"- Ben Folds Five 4) "This Is My Song"- Carbon Leaf 5) "All I Really Want"- Alanis Morissette
I guess I really don't feel like updating everyone on what's going on since I last updated this, but here are some things:
I got my wisdom teeth out about three weeks ago. My, that was pleasant =P Well, I didn't swell that much and was fully recovered 5 days after, so I guess it wasn't all that bad.
This summer I'm interning at The Council of Insurance Agents and Brokers in DC. Basically, they're an agency that represents the top 1% of commercial brokers in the country and they try to address the things they need and want. They also do some lobbying in Congress. I like it a lot there; the city is a nice change from Harrisonburg during the school year, I'm going to get to write news releases and have already written some articles for insurance publications :) :) :)
I need to go to a Nationals game in the near future, preferably on a weekend towards the end of this month. Pleeeease someone go with me?
And lastly, I've been more or less formulating a list of what books I need to read this summer. Here's what I have so far (which isn't very much):
Catch-22 Life of Pi All the Harry Potter books (again, ha) 1776
Suggestions? Anyone? Bueller? |

In other news: first off, happy birthday Mon! :) :) Other random stuff over the last few weeks: -/+the news editor job I wanted just slipped away from my grasp a couple of weekends ago, sadly. I was upset for a few hours but luckily, I got over it pretty quickly by realizing the good things like, 1) I have next year, 2) I'll have a life now, 3) I was the only person they felt bad about not hiring, and 4) they still love me :). Yay for college newspapers, ha. +spring break is 3 days away. fuck. yeah. -although the snow day was awesome, I didn't get to see the Israeli Parliament member come speak at school since he couldn't get in. That wouldve been so sweet, although apparently he "uses his religious beliefs to discriminate against Israeli Arabs and Palestinians", which is not cool. +i have rekindled my love for mario kart on n64
As for right now, I can't wait until I go home. Only one more exam this week and then...freedom, woohoo. |

Innocent and naive, you approach sex with a virginal mindset. You tend to enjoy teasing and flaunting much more than actual sex. You're a notorious flirt, and you can pick up anyone you desire. As a result, your reputation is a lot steamier than your real sex life. |

First, for the ladies: When did you all get boys?? Rachana=out of the loop. But good for you anyway :)
So, yeah, maybe I should update more. Nothing interesting's been happening though. Oh, except last week the main hotspot for JMUers on Wednesday nights, Mainstreet Bar and Grill, burnt down. Completely. It's a hollow piece of wood, and it's pretty sad, cause Carbon Leaf used to come and play there once in a while, and now it is no more :( I get to write a follow up for The Breeze this week cause no one knows how it burnt down. Speaking of The Breeze, it's been sucking up all my free time lately. They make me work hard for my $5 per story. Woo. Still want that editor job though, but more on that later.
I'm starting to get more and more excited about Thanksgiving. Brody and I talked about it some time ago. It'll be good to stuff my face with food til I can't move and to finally see everyone in one place. Oh, and as for the election, I couldn't decide which I was more unhappy about: Kerry losing, or the fact that our country is so fucking divided that it essentially would've sucked for whoever won. Yay national unity...my ass.
Well, dhall brunch is calling my name so this is it for now. Have a good weekend everyone :) |

"Now what if the president came on TV...well nevermind, he wouldn't cause there's an election in two weeks"
I guess I'm not used to teachers expressing their political opinions in front of their students (darrrn yooou Mr. Waxman). But yeah, it was awesome. I love this school. |

| | buddy holly--weezer | ] | One of my neighbors, who goes by the name of Jono Berkel, is a freshman at UT Austin this year. Except, it's not "is" so much anymore as it is "was". Jono, being the naive freshman that he is, thought that he could not go to any lectures, and instead just got the assignments off blackboard and what have you. So he would print out his lectures, go to class on exam days, and (surprise surprise), would fail his tests.
What did Jono do in his spare time, you ask? Well, from what my mom got from his mom, it consisted of mostly eating, sleeping, basketball, and ultimate frisbee.
So now, two months and about $20,000 later, Jono is now at home after withdrawing from UT, with incompletes for his classes. As for what he's doing, I haven't the slightest idea. But I guess the moral is: go to class, kids. Otherwise you'll end up in a state like my unfortunate neighbor =P |

When does everyone have fall break? I believe we're off from the 15th to the 18th.
Aaaannd...
There's been sort of this "dying hair and being girly frenzy" in my suite lately, and so, I've been thinking about dying my hair. It wouldn't be drastic or anything, just something different for a while. I mean, the only thing I can really do is go lighter. So the question is, to dye or not to dye?
Oh, and on another note: Happy anniversary to Mon and Ray. Goodness, it's actually an anniversary and not a random month that people call an "anniversary". You crazy kids :) |

So, yeah, back at JMU, and it's wonderful! But where to start...
I guess first off, I should probably thank Catie, Leigh, Kristin and Doc for coming to visit, even though it's a bit late. But that was lots of fun, thanks guys :). All you people with cars should come visit the people without them. In case you missed it, that means you come visit me. I like company. Speaking of company, living in a suite is a lot different from being on a hall like last year. It's a lot of fun though. I love all my suitemates, even though there's only 5 of us cause my next door neighbor is my RA and they're allowed to have their own room. I know, normally you would think "ick", but Dana's really awesome and she's not a hard ass or anything. I can't decide if I like the Village or Hillside better. One thing that's good though is that I can see Mike's suite from my suite window. We're trying to devise a plan to tie two cans on opposite ends of a looooong ass piece of string so we can put one can in each of our windows, and talk on the phone that way. Shut up, I know there's always the option of using a real phone, but this is sooooo much better.
Classes have been alright. This semester I've got all male professors, which is strange...cause I don't think that's ever happened before. They're all pretty cool too, especially my SMAD 202 professor, Prof. Woody. This guy is insane, and by insane, I mean insanely funny. He says things like "I'm not high on drugs, I'm high on VIDEO" in class (he's a post-production guy,and apparently one of his students wrote on his teacher eval. that he was on drugs). I'm gonna try to write down all the funny things he says in class and maybe give it to him at the end of the semester. So...yeah, anyway. Classes have been good. I've been writing a lot too, ya know, since the reason I didn't do band was cause of newspaper. Only 3 more stories away from being an official staff writer. Woop woop. Oh, and if you guys are ever bored check out The Breeze on Mondays and Thursdays, I should have a story in the news there somewhere (shameless self promotion, I know). I want to be an editor someday, preferably before I graduate. Scott says he sees it, so awesome.
Speaking of Scott, he lives right below me so I've spent my fair share of time down there. His suitemates are a lot of fun. They do things like "Ling Ling the Talking Panda". Don't ask, you'll probably see it on Collegehumor eventually. Lets just say that it's hilarious.
Well, that's probably enough for now. Things have been good here, minus all the rain from the hurricane. Seriously, mother nature needs to make up her damn mind as to whether it's going to rain, or not. Not go back and forth every 2 minutes. Urg.
Hope you guys are all having fun too :) |
